once again, foiled by "R"s!

I've been trying to improve the way I pronounce japanese, but I always get stuck on the "R"s. I just can't seem to say them right. When I try to use a japanese "R" it ends up sounding like a strangled "L". Does anyone have some tips or tricks to help with that?

Know someone who might be able to answer this question?

I always find if you make an L sound, bring the tip of your tongue slightly back so it doesn't or just barely touches the roof of your mouth.  Then try to make the R sound in this fashion.  It gets closer.

Ahhh, it took me a while to learn how to pronounce the Japanese 'R' too! If you try and find the part on the roof of your mouth that's inbetween where your tongue touches for pronouncing 'L' and 'D' (L is further back and D is very near your teeth), and then try and flick your tongue quickly against it, then you should end up making the Japanese 'R' sound. It might take a little while to get it perfect though, so keep trying! :)

i'm late and all but level the tongue right behind the teeth (where the roof of the mouth is ) and then try to make the R sound (it sounds like a mixture of L and R). I hope this helps. :)
