Don't understand

I don't understand, it shows an A and a U character and it says"to meet" how's that work? I got the pronunciation I don't get how A and U mean "to meet". Or any of the other ones in the first lesson. Help me understand this so I can move on.

Know someone who might be able to answer this question?

Hi Jason.  あう is a word.  It's actually a verb and it's written in the dictionary form in that lesson.  You say the word together (just like in the recording).  So making the sounds of  A+U creates the word あう which means "to meet".
