On'Yomi and Kun'yomi?

I'm still having trouble understand what the diffrence is.. Can anyone eplain it a little better to me?

On Yomi are the Chinese readings of a kanji while Kun Yomi are the Native Japanese readings of a kanji.

My personal trouble is not the difference; I don't see a pattern when to use what. Theory says something, yes, but so many examples I see just mock about theory and form exeptions.
