Hi,

The translation of this sentence in the example is '秋は、すずしくなります'

Why is はused instead of a location particle like で or に?

Here, は is used to mark 秋 as the topic of the sentence. A literal translation might be, "In regards to autumn, it gets cool." (Of course that sounds weird in English.)

Another example of using は to mark the topic of the sentence is: ラーメンは食べます。(I eat ramen.) Here は is used instead of を.

You also asked why で or に isn't used. I don't know whether or not those particles are also acceptable, so someone else will have to answer that.

Hi!

ginko-san is right.

In this case, あき is used as a topic of the sentence, so it's marked with the particle は.

If you want to think あき as a kind of "place," you could use the particle に, too.  It's natural to use the particle は together to imply that "compared with summer."  Like this,

にはすずしくなります。

で is used to mark a place where some action is taken.  So, it's not adequate for this sentence.

ginko-san, I need to point out that the verb たべる requires a particle to mark the direct object, so ラーメン食べます is the correct sentence.

Hope this helps!
