Drill repeats?

Asked 5 years ago

Hello!

I've added a number of different lists to my drills and was simply wondering whether the system provided for overlap.  Just an example, if I've added three different lists to drills and each contains the kanji 赤, am I going to see this 赤 three times (or... twenty-four times when you add consider both EN/JP translation, onyomi and kunyomi pronunciations?) or does the system automatically prevent this from happening?

Know someone who might be able to answer this question?

You will indeed get the same kanji 3x. You can just take the extra drills out of the drill selection though.

This is actually incorrect. :)

Actually, no.  You'll only get the drill inserted "once" into your drills.  You'll notice this because in any list that you subscribe to or create, you'll see any kanji/words that you've already added to your drills as listed as in your drills.

So no matter how many lists you subscribe to, if they all have the same kanji, that kanji's drills will only be added to your drills once.

Getting a bit more technical here but are data sets from the 'in-house' Nihongo Master lessons separate from the imported dictionary sets, which would increase the chance of repeats? I only ask as it seems a lot of times I get asked the same question over and over again (mostly basic kanji), even with the obscene number of outstanding drills I've got.

Actually yes, those are separate. But we're looking into ways of "merging" them so you don't get that duplication of effort. And we're still working on some very good drill management tools which will continue to help with the drills.
