Certainly some employers might want to see that shiny N1 certificate, but the other levels can be good too. Something to motivate yourself with, see how far you've studied, or apply what you've learned. Might be a good experience too, in preparation for your eventual N1 success!

But it's such a stressful way to examine yourself! I'd rather do some drills. Or better, go straight into action and test my skills in battle (trying to read untranslated newspaper, the horror!)

Got a long way to go before I can take a JLPT.

If you are then I wish you the best of luck and that goes for all of you !

I am.  :)  The JLPT is a fantastic way to guage your progress.  It's not a complete evaluation of your skills as it doesn't test your ability to speak (there is no speaking portion.  Only reading comprehension and listening).  Giving yourself a good goal to reach and a timeline to reach it (register for the test as soon as it's available and don't back out) gives you the motivation to continue your studies each day.

I'll be on the Los Angeles USC testing campus if anyone from the community would like to meet. :)

I took it today. It was long and hard. T_T  I should have studied more!

I hear yah! My biggest problem was the listening. I think it's time to implement something to make it easier for us to practice speaking.
