I want to be able to say "my major is philosophy" and so I looked up the word for philosophy, but I'm not sure if it would be correct use the same word when talking about it as a major in college?
In other words, would this be correct?
私は専攻が哲学です。

Hi Nikola-san,
My major is Philosophy. = "私の専攻は哲学です。" or "私は専攻が哲学です。"
Actually there is a subtle difference in the nuance, but you can say either way.
