I don't know if that is how they pronounce news with a z where they are located, but I have been pronouncing it with an "s" for the past 22 years living in the North East xD

Trying to make "news" with an "s" sounds sounds like "noose" rather than "newz"

Fuyudaisukii, I know what you mean, but it doesn't matter. If you say it wrong, they will not know what you mean.

In my opinion, 「ニュース」 wouuuld work better as 「ニューズ」。 It just seem to sounds closer to the English sound to me.

Nya nya isn't really correct, you just say Nya or Nyan (Nya is more commonly used, though). Saying nya nya is like saying meow meow.

Say the English word "news" to yourself: it ends with a "z" sound, doesn't it? Nope, no matter how I look at it or read it, it ends with "s" sound. It's like Nyus (english one).

One very tasty Japanese food is shabu-shabu, a type of hot-pot with tasty meat and vegitables. Shabu-shabu has its origins in Mongolia and came to Japan via China. Because of this, one might think that it would be written using Katakana as シャブシャブ. However, in the case of shabu-shabu it is actually spelled using hiragana: しゃぶしゃぶ. This is because the name comes from the Japanese onomonopia for the sound of swishing in a pot. Sometimes Japanese is tricky! But shabu-shabu is delicious.
