The first sentence is correct. But the second sentence むらかみ先生はげつよう日にじゅぎょうがいませんでした is NOT correct since the subject is じゅぎょう, and it should take the verb ある instead of いる. So, むらかみ先生はげつよう日にじゅぎょうがありませんでした is translated as "Mr./Mrs. Murakami did not have a class on Monday."

A question: Where it says "むらかみ先生はげつよう日にじゅぎょうにいませんでした.", and is translated as "Mr. Murakami was not in class on Monday" then "むらかみ先生はげつよう日にじゅぎょうがいませんでした", would that be translated as "Mr. Murakami does not have a class on Monday" (as in his "class" doesnt exist) or would that not work. Thanks :D
