Do not confuse かわいい and わかい. One means young, the other means cute. かわいい sounds like Hawaii, and Hawaii is cute, not young.

As far as i know, if you are asking people's age, it's recommended to say 'shitsureidesuga' (sorry for being rude, i may be rude, ) before asking.

I think it would be better for あなたはなんさいですか。 to be translated as "what is your age" rather than "How old are you". Though they are alike in meaning, it lessens the confusion when translating.
