In the listening sample for "けんいちさんは大学生です。", the name sounds more like "Kate"," Ken" or "Cain" instead of "Kenichi".

Same as 大じょうぶ(だいじょうぶ), 大せつ(たいせつ) is written with two kanji 大切(たいせつ). You haven't learned the other kanji 切 yet.

I don't understand why with 大きい you use the kun'yomi reading but 大せつ you use the on'yomi reading. Surely because the kanji is attached to hiragana the kun'yomi reading should be used in both?

melon-san, Actually, 大じょうぶ is written with 2 other kanji: 大丈夫. They're not introduced here because they're too advanced.

In one of the lessons it says 大じょうぶですか。is pronounced だいじょうぶ (this is the on yomi pronouncation) but I thought kanji that was attached to hirgana was kun yomi not on yomi.

Alethian-san, You're right! 切、丈夫 shouldn't be written in Kanji here.

The Japanese word for "student" literally translates to "a life of study." Hahah, very nice.
