For someone commenting on your profile you should get an email notification. I don't think you get an email notification for someone answering or commenting on your question though.

Hi Aihara! To create a study list you go to the dictionary and search for a word you want to add. Once, you are looking at the word, its definitions, and related kanji you should see under related kanji "Add to your Study List". Once, you are there you an "create new" study list. I hope this helps! :)
